Randy has been tattooing in the San Diego area since 1990, originally running his old Escondido shop for 7 years. Prior to coming to San Diego, Randy started tattooing in the Palm Springs area where he met Col.Todd and Catfish Carl at Custom Tattoo in 29 Palms. Randy says it was guys like those dudes who were kind enough to give him a helping hand and start him in his career… Randy use to ride up there often to hang out and some of these old timers would give him game on what and what not to do as far as what worked for tattooing. Some of the other cool guys from back in the day were Mike the Trike at Empire Tattoo in Rialto…
Fast forward a few years and the bullshit hit, on Sept 5th 1997 Randy was indicted on a bunch of lies about a tattoo shop in Bonsall being blown up! All in all, nothing more to say other than he was truly shanghaied by the feds on that one… The truth of the matter was he just knew who did it and was man enough to not drop the dime!)
Looking back on things, the most important part was the things he learned during that time. He took the skills that he had learned from the old timers and refined them to get ready for the next step in his professional tattoo career. Most importantly he learned a lot more about life; how great it really is, and how bad it can be… (Trust him; the federal penitentiary is no joke!)
On to better times, Randy was released February 4th 2002 with a new lease on life…If you ask him today; he’ll tell you that he is blessed! Today he is a dedicated single dad raising his beautiful lil 8 yr old girl and is determined to make a better life for them both.
Soooooo, to say the least, Randy is a very versatile and well rounded artist who is very capable in traditional, old school , new school, fine line, black & grey and oriental designs. Another area Randy is exceptional in is working with really big pieces, with an amazing eye for proportions and positive / negative layout
